ACC= adaptive cruise control (also known as ADAS= advanced driver assistance systems) helps to prevent accidents by keeping your car at a safe distance from the vehicle/ traffic ahead.
Working in conjunction together with the front mounted radar – (Front Assist traffic monitoring system), adaptive cruise control keeps you a safe distance from the vehicle in front making driving much easier in slow and stop and go traffic. Improving active safety, you will be more relaxed and comfortable on journeys knowing you have an extra helping hand.
ACC will immediately detect traffic slowing ahead and automatically reduces your speed to match. If you are driving too close to the car in front, it will warn you in two stages. First, a visual display will appear in the instrument display and acoustic signals followed with a short braking jolt. If necessary, the system will bring your car to a complete stop.
Road recognition system - using information from front and rear cameras and route information, your vehicle will predicatively adjust its speed prior to junctions and bends.
Speed Assist - using both the front camera and route information identifies changes in the posted speed limit and automatically adjusts the vehicles speed.
These high-tech safety systems, such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Lane Keeping Assist, are designed to save lives by alerting the driver to a hazard or bu automatically taking the necessary action to prevent a collision.
They rely on cameras and radar sensors which must be accurately calibrated to ensure correct operation of the vehicle’s systems. Even slight misalignment of a camera or radar sensor could mean the difference between avoiding an accident or not.
Calibration is required after many common maintenance procedures and accident repairs including:
● Wheel alignment or axle geometry
● Windscreen replacement
● Front or rear collision repair
● Mechanical repairs to steering, suspension and even simple bodywork repairs
It’s also advisable to have your car’s camera(s) and/or radar sensor(s) checked if they haven’t been calibrated in the last 3 years.
